Starting in 2010, “transitional kindergarten” became the term used to describe the first year of a two-year kindergarten program offered by California public schools to accommodate families who have children turning five between September 2nd and December 2nd. For decades, our full-day kinder-prep programs have offered a structured learning environment for four and five year olds who are ready to hone key kindergarten readiness skills like letter-sound recognition, handwriting, increased attention span, and independent decision making. Children who successfully complete our kinder-prep program are ready for kindergarten!
First Pres Prep is accredited by NAEYC and WASC, maintaining high standards for teacher qualifications, class size, curriculum, health, management and more. Our staff-to-child ratios are no more than 1:10 for preschool and 1:12 for kindergarten. Public TK programs follow the same standards as LAUSD elementary schools, with a staffing ratio of 1:24 for kindergarten and transitional kindergarten—which may be combined into a single class. At First Pres Prep, parents have ample opportunities to be involved in their children’s education. For families who need extra support, we offer before and after school care as well as enrichment classes, even for our youngest learners. If you still have questions about whether we have the right program for your child, give us a call. We’re eager to help you with these important decisions.

Our small, family-oriented atmosphere encourages open communication between parents and teachers as well as ample opportunities for parents to participate in their children’s education. Our before and after school programs provide the support busy parents need in a community where children thrive.
